A marked improvement over an already awesome game (Jonathan Mettin, Philadelphia, PA USA, 2008-12-11)
Take everything that made the original awesome, keep it, and add tons of cool new stuff. Presto! You've got Guitar Hero II.
GH2 adds in a lot of nice extras - more guitars, guitar skins, songs, characters and costumes - as well as keeping the quality and variety of tracks. But the most notable difference is in the multiplayer. Clearly the developers heard the complaints - there is now a cooperative mode, competing players can play at different difficulties, and there's a new mode (Pro Face Off) where players go note-for-note.
GH2 is the strongest entry of the GH series so far, and is well worth the purchase.
Good if you liked the first or third one (Deborah Miller, Ashburn, VA, 2008-09-21)
I love Guitar Hero. I have almost every single game for it, just missing the third. This game is very good and has very memorable riffs. Unfortunately, the covers are really, really bad. So, is it worth the money? Let's find out.
If you don't know what GH is, you have a guitar with five fret buttons (green, red, yellow, blue, and orange). Notes come down the screen and you have to hit the colored frets while strumming, and for long notes, u can use the whammy bar. That's basically Guitar Hero in a nutshell. It has four difficulty settings: Easy, Medium, Hard, and Expert. Hard and Expert are for the people who have been playing the game for a long time, while Easy and Medium are for beginners. What experienced players will be flustered by is the addition of three button chords. They add a little bit of challenge for players who thought the first game was too easy. Hammer ons and pull offs are a lot easier this time around. What players will like is the addition of practice mode, where you can practice songs without being booed off stage.
The graphics in this are good.....for a PlayStation2 game.
The soundtrack is great, ranging from bands like Nirvana, Avenged Sevenfold, Anthrax, Stone Temple Pilots, and more. But this game has some bad covers, so if you're a fan of Guns n Roses, Alice in Chains, or Rage Against the Machine, be prepared to face it (Ex. Killing in the Name sounds like Rage Against the Machine karaoke).
The game is really great, and I recommend it to anyone.
My kids Love this Game! (Diane M. Miller, 2008-08-30)
Great game - the kids love it (different music from the first Guitar Hero.)
It couldn't get any better
Guitar Hero 2 is a great game for anyone who wants a fun time rocking out
I first bought Guitar Hero 3 for my Wii. It isn't the best. (I'd give it about 3 1/2 stars. Then I got guitar hero 2.
IT IS AMAZING!!!
I am hooked on this game
i highly recommend this game
Awesome game (Sarah J. Neal, Florida Panhandle, 2008-06-18)
